We are delighted to partner with British Museum on a series of South Asian dance workshops that we coonduted for their community partners. These workshops culminated in a performance by the participants at the museum’s prestigious South Asia Gallery on Friday, July 18th.
Workshop details:
Over two months from May to July, Akademi facilitated eight engaging workshops for community members, exploring the movement of Kathak, one of the eight classical dances from India. Led by renowned Kathak artist, Archita Kumar, participants got the opportunity to immerse themselves in the beauty and dynamism of this art form, drawing inspiration from the incredible artifacts within the museum’s exhibition – Ancient India: living traditions. Reaching back more than 2,000 years, this exhibition explored the origins of Hindu, Jain and Buddhist sacred art in the ancient and powerful nature spirits of India, and the spread of this art beyond the subcontinent.
Performance details:
The performance on July 18th showcased the choreography developed by the participants under Archita’s expert guidance. In addition to the group performance, Archita also presented a solo Kathak performance.
About Archita Kumar:
