*NEW | Collaborative doctoral research award in South Asian Dance as a Lens to Investigate Urgent Contemporary Narratives
Apply by 13 January 2025, noon (UK time)
We’ve partnered with CDaRE (The Centre for Dance Research) at Coventry University to offer a doctoral research award – South Asian Dance as a Lens to Investigate Urgent Contemporary Narratives. The award is part of the Midlands4Cities Collaborative Doctoral Awards.
This research project investigates the impact of South Asian dance on complex contemporary narratives, such as the decolonial agenda and the urgent climate crisis. This is a unique position to explore how complex contemporary narratives, such as the urgent climate
crisis, are and can be negotiated through the language of South Asian dance forms. Akademi’s work successfully interrogates the climate crisis and its detrimental effect on the global south. The candidate will have the opportunity to witness and analyse ongoing practice at Akademi.
Person specification
- The candidate will have knowledge of South Asian dance and have a practice.
- They will have excellent written and presentation skills. Most importantly, they will have a curiosity and willingness to develop their practice through exploring new creative methods alongside academic sources.
- The candidate will develop public engagement skills as their research will have national and international impact with a variety of audiences.
