We were at Wandsworth Town Hall on Wednesday, 6 September celebrating South Asian Heritage Month with the staff of Richmond and Wandsworth Councils organised by their Race Equality Network. We presented an afternoon of Bharatanatyam and Bollywood, two celebrated dance styles from India.

Dance artist Aishani Ghosh performed the piece, Madhurashtakam, in the graceful Indian Classical dance style, Bharatanatyam.

Madhurashtakam is a fun lighted hearted Classical Bharatanatyam performance about Lord Krishna, the God of protection, compassion and love in Indian mythology. The piece explores his divinity and how one can find this divinity within oneself.

She then led an interactive workshop for the audience where they could try out some traditional mudras (hand gestures) and some popular Bollywood dance moves. The movement was kept light and easy to grasp for people of any dancing ability.
