NAVADAL, meaning ‘new shoots’, is Akademi’s National South Asian Youth Dance Competition – an opportunity to see exciting new work from the rising stars of South Asian dance.
On Saturday 15 July, fourteen soloists and four groups, a total of 45 performers, took to the stage at Birmingham Hippodrome to battle it out to win this prestigious competition. The winners of NAVADAL 2017 won fantastic prizes including trophies, One Dance UK membership and the opportunity to perform at Southbank Centre‘s Alchemy Festival 2018.
Congratulations to everyone who participated, it was an astounding day, and everybody demonstrated great skill, strength and dedication. A special note of appreciation must also go to the teachers, whose sterling work is evident and vital to the future of this brilliantly proactive sector.
Thank you also to our panel of five expert judges, our host Shane Shambhu and the staff of U.Dance 2017 and Birmingham Hippodrome.
