Akademi returns to Dialled In for the second year

Dialled in is an artist-led movement platforming South Asian music, art & culture.

Following a NPO grants by the Arts Council this year, Dialled In : The Park around the corner, moved its footprint to North London and became an event for people of all ages.

Akademi curated a BollyWaack performance and workshop led by artists from BollyRed Dance Company.

Artists Aanchal Gupta and Manna Prince took the participants on an hour-long journey of fun, movement and a whole new adventure – which was sold out despite the wet weather!

They demonstrated an unusual style – BollyWaack – a fusion of two distinct dance genres originating halfway across the world from each other – Bollywood, popular worldwide for its dramatic movement on upbeat Indian music and Waacking, the rebellious empowering street dance of LA. Together they will give a new take on storytelling through dance, with glimpses of Indian semiclassical style (relaxed version of Indian classical dances) rich in Mudras (hand gestures), Aada (expressions), and grace.
