Free, Closed event for the museum’s community partners

To mark South Asian Heritage Month, the British Museum’s Community Partnerships team organised an afternoon full of South Asian Dance and movement.

In these special South Asian dance workshops led by Akademi dance artist Showmi Das, participants explored storytelling using expressive movements and gestures, learnt dance sequences and enjoyed vibrant music. They were introduced to movements inspired by the objects in the British Museum’s South Asian Gallery, such as Shiva Nataraja (the Lord of Dance), Radha Krishna and have the opportunity to create your own collective small dance piece with support from Akademi’s tutor.

For adults of all abilities with no prior dancing experience.
