Closing event for V&A Museum’s South Asia Gallery, 13 Mar

The South Asia gallery at the Victoria and Albert Museum buzzed with creative energy one last time before it closed its door until 2028 to undergo renovations.

Bharatanatyam artist Meghna Nandini Lokabhiramaraju took to the floor as participants gathered around her, translating her expressive gestures and intricate footwork into line, shape and form, capturing moments of dance through their own artistic lens. The event was attended by V&A’s local community partners who’ve been advising them on the new iteration of the South Asia Gallery.

Meghna and your team were incredible. I had so many audience members and staff comment on how incredible both performances were and how much they enjoyed the live drawing afterwards. It was really lovely to have an activity that appealed to a range of ages — as programming for multi-generational South Asian groups has been a big focus for us.

Over the years, Akademi has curated and presented several performances in this beautiful gallery. This session marked an emotional farewell as the South Asia Gallery closes for renovation — and we excitedly look forward to its new look in 2028.
