Margam (2017)
Sooraj Subramaniam in a virtuosic Bharatanatyam recital. Accompanied by an ensemble of Carnatic musicians.
First presented at Rich Mix, Friday 3 March 2017.
In this debut recital, Sooraj Subramaniam takes the audience on a journey into Bharatanatyam; through rhythmic musical patterns, nuanced expressive mime, complex emotional narratives and scintillating pure dance.
This specially curated event from Akademi will feature choreography by Sooraj Subramaniam, accompanied by an ensemble of traditional Carnatic musicians.
Originating in the temples of South India, Bharatanatyam employs highly stylised gestures and facial expressions to explore the enduring theme of love.
