Performances at Greenwich Peninsula Diwali event, 2 November
2 November 2024, 2:30pm to 5pm
Clod Ensemble studio, Greenwich
We were invited to perform and lead dance workshops at Diwali event organised by Greenwich Peninsula this November.
The guests were invited to immerse themselves in the world of Kathak, an Indian Classical dance with its origins tracing back to 2000 years ago in Northern India. Artists Jesal Patel and Trishna Kumari, took them on a contemporary journey while remaining rooted to the traditional art form. They performed Kathak inspired choreography on a medley of popular music from Indian Cinema, finishing in an upbeat piece called Kanya, composed by Niraj Chag.
It was followed by a mesmerising presentation of folk dance, Ghoomar, straight from the sun-kissed deserts of Rajasthan in North Western India. The dance form is known to have been started by the Bhil tribe and later embraced by other Rajasthani communities. Performed by artists Neha Patel and Khyati Varsani from Sarjan Nartan Academy.
In the end it was the audiences turn to get up and dance! The artists led two accessible movement workshops where they could try some simple dance moves.
