Akademi was proud to be part of the spectacular theatrical highlight of the 2007 Trafalgar Square Festival with Bells, a new collaborative spectacle created by artists from Delhi, London and Belgium. Internationally acclaimed artist Naresh Kapuria’s sculptures featuring hundreds of bells were integrated into a dance piece choreographed by Kumudini Lakhia (Composer Atul Desai).
The Kathak dancers engaged with the sculptures in ritualised movement sequences, leading to a dazzling climax during which eight white aerialists (Theater Tol) dancing suspended from cranes in air re-created the spirit and intensity of kathak in perfect time with the dancers below. The show was jointly choreographed by Amina Khayyam and Urja Desai Thakore with an over-all soundscape composed and re-mixed by Niraj Chag. Accompanied by live music.
