Akademi South Asian Dance UK proudly present Bells, a majestic piece drawing inspiration from the sculptures of renowned artist Naresh Kapuria.
Bringing together the best international talent, Bells features a cast of six dancers from a variety of backgrounds. A modern interpretation of Kathak and Indian dance styles, the cast provide a dazzling and colourful contemporary performance, honouring the Kathak traditions of South Asia.
Shown across Europe, Bells was first performed in July 2007 for the Trafalgar Square Festival and reworked with an enhanced storyboard for the 2012 summer Olympic festival Showtime, a performance in collaboration with Theatre Tol, an international Belgian performing arts company known for working in unusual spaces and creating site-specific works.
Showcasing intricate movements and impeccable timing, Bells is based on Ekatra, a choreographic work created by eminent Kathak artist, Kumudini Lakhia, and jointly reworked by choreographers Amina Khayyam and Urja Thakore. The original musical score is composed and mixed by Atul Desai and Niraj Chag.
Akademi are thrilled to be relaunching one of their most celebrated works.
