CREATING MOVES
Delivering South Asian dance workshops for disadvantaged children and young people (between 5 and 18 years) at risk of exclusion.

Workshops are culturally diverse, artistically excellent and foster positive attitudes amongst participants through both experiencing a professional performance and participating in creative activities.
Projects focus on classical South Asian dance or popular Bollywood dance and related art forms such as music, drama and visual arts. We have vast experience of designing bespoke sessions that can be tailor-made in accordance with the national curriculum or even feed in to a local event, mela or festival.
Quotes:
“It was different from what I would normally do.”
“The artist was excellent!”
“The movements the children did during the performance linked very well to the story of Diwali”

INTER ACTION
Providing accessible and relevant workshops for older people across London. Content includes classical South Asian dance, yoga, story-telling and music and movement experiences with a particular focus on active health.

A session of movement (chair-based or standing) will work on core stability, balance, posture, flexibility and strength as well as breathing and relaxation techniques and massage.
Akademi has an accomplished history of working with older people and in particular BAMER groups of older people. Workshops will be equally promoted and deliverd to disadvantaged groups and artists will work in community languages where required.
Quotes:
“Loved the movements and the story-telling aspect”
“Everyone has been talking about the session.”
“Everyone could join in, it could be done seated or standing by everyone whatever their ability.”
“We know that dance is an important form of exercise and is very good for our age group for balance and co-ordination as well as memory and we can make it a social event which brings lots of people together.”
