In 2009, Akademi chose three top dance artists to participate in our choreographic development programme for artists working in South Asian dance. Subathra Subramaniam, Aakash Odedra and Kali Chandrasegaram were selected for the bursary, initiated by Akademi and funded by Arts Council England (ACE). After the conclusion of the project, the artists talk here about their experiences and how they have benefitted in their careers as artists. This film includes interviews with the artists and clips of the performance work that was created as a result of the bursary. The artists were mentored by Theresa Beattie.
This was the first time that Arts Council England had worked with Akademi to support a South Asian choreographic development programme. The ACE South Asian Choreographic Development Bursary programme allowed Akademi to extend our services in developing and nurturing South Asian dance in the UK.
