DAREDEVAS AT EDINBURGH FESTIVAL 2008

Akademi unites pioneering young British and international talent with an innovative take on traditional Indian dance. Daredevas is a platform that supports the significant and continually growing talent of current South Asian dance artists.

3RD - 9TH AUGUST, 8.15PM

The performing artists are four emerging international Kathak dancers from the UK: Quincy Charles, Yuko Inoue, Amina Khayyam and Manuela Benini; presenting solo work culminating in a Finale from Akademi’s acclaimed production Bells, choreographed by Amina Khayyam, Urja Desai and Kumudini Lakhia, originally presented at the Trafalgar Square Festival in 2007. The show will be performed to a recorded track composed by various artists, including Niraj Chag and Asit Desai.

17TH - 25TH AUGUST, 11.30AM

Presenting just one area of creative output from modern Britain, the programme reflects the meetings of cultures, of traditional with contemporary and of new talent with the more established, that characterises our current cultural ecology. The performing artists are: Archita Kumar, Shrikant Subramaniam, Archana Ballal and Hanna Mannila.
