AKADEMI SOUTH ASIAN DANCE UK
Akademi (formerly known as Academy of Indian Dance) is a pioneering organisation that works to encourage excellence in the practice of South Asian dance in Britain. Founded in 1979, Akademi aims to place South Asian dance as an important force within British art, society and education. It works to bring people in contact with the creativity of South Asian dance as a part of mainstream dance in Britain.
Raising the Profile of South Asian Dance
Akademi produces innovative, large-scale South Asian dance events, and works with imaginative performance venues to allow the widest possible audience for South Asian dance throughout the country. Akademi creates links and partnerships with local, national and international organisations to strengthen support, through lobbying politicians and decision makers on behalf of South Asian dance.
Our Philosophy
Akademi is a cutting-edge, progressive organisation with an international outlook, based in the heart of London and working strategically across the UK. Its work is modern and holistic, informed by the traditions and rich heritage of South Asian dance and driven by the needs of South Asian dance artists in the UK. Akademi strives towards relevance, accessibility and excellence in all its work.
